The Prosecutor's Office ordered an inspection of contracts concluded by Sofia Airport

The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office dealt with the matter itself based on the information in the media and ordered an inspection for violations in the conclusion of contracts by "Letishe Sofia"-EAD (Sofia Airport EAD, the state prosecution said.

"In connection with inquiries from various media, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SCPO) informed that on 24.07.2023 it dealt with the matter itself on media publications about violations in the conclusion of contracts by Sofia Airport EAD, the information states:

"Today, 25 July 2023, a prosecutor at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office ordered an investigation into the available information containing evidence of a possible general offence, which he assigned to the Anti-Corruption Commission (CAFIAP).

The subject of the inspection will be the entering into contracts for legal and accounting services between Sofia Airport EAD and other companies and the spending of public funds under these contracts.

Specific instructions have been given by the supervising prosecutor, which should be implemented by the CAFIAP and the gathered records should be reported to the Sofia State Prosecutor's Office to assess whether there is sufficient evidence to initiate pre-trial proceedings,  the prosecutor's office specifies.

According to a publication on the website Narod.bg, Adv. Deteliina Hancheva, the wife of former Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, is behind some of the companies that entered into contracts with Sofia Airport during the time of former director Plamen Stanchev and shares with them the fees received, which are artificially inflated.

"The ex-airport chief's calmness so far stems from the fact that reports since 2017 to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office of fraud and computer crimes have been left without consequence for six years and have remained without consequence, the publication says.
